In my youth, there was nothing better than visiting a bookstore on a lazy afternoon. I absolutely loved getting lost in the shelves and displays, looking for that perfect new book (or two). I gravitated to fantasy and history (and still do!), so I gobbled up any and all of those vibrant colors, wishing to one day be one of those magic literary gemstones. Borders and Barnes & Nobel were my 90s-girl jam!
As an adult, I’ve found that same delight in the library and in independent book stores. And though I don’t have hours to devote to book browsing anymore, I always keep my eyes peeled for treasures. Still, there is a piece of me that holds on to the nostalgic.
Things being what they are, it took a couple of decades for one of my works to join the dragon’s horde of published fantasy. So, when I had a chance to choose distributors, there were a few no-brainers. Borders is no longer an option, but Barnes & Nobel is still alive and kicking it.
Part of their survival strategy is to embrace the digital age. My book isn’t on store shelves (yet), it lies in wait for scavenging Internet book lovers. Yet, if those readers decide my book is one to be noticed, Barnes and Nobel will take notice too.
So, even though my girlhood dream hasn’t exactly come to fruition, I can still proudly say that you can buy my book at Barnes & Nobel!
And maybe, someday, you’ll walk by and be able to snatch a copy off of the shelf for your own book dragon needs.
